Medpedia Launches Today

James Currier, an internet entrepreneur, today launched Medpedia, a medical encyclopedia that operates like social encyclopedias such as Wikipedia, but giving only medical professionals the ability to submit content. The website aims to serve as a database of medical information for the public, combined with forums for patients to share stories and pose questions directly to those physicians that edit the encyclopedia.

AMA Presents Class-Action Suit

The AMA was joined by several state medical societies in a class-action lawsuit against the insurance companies Aetna Health, Inc., and CIGNA Corporation, claiming that the the companies severely under-reimbursed physicians.

Pfizer, Inc. has announced it is volunteering to disclose physician payments on its website.. This follows a statement made by Eli Lilly & Co. in September that it, too, will start disclosing physician payments and gifts.
